Art Showcase - Dolls by the magic vessel (Amber Glassman)
Artist Statement: "I like to design characters and bring them to life
in the form of art dolls. I believe there is no 'us' and 'them,' there is only the collective nature of life and being. Each being is an important vessel of energy. Making these creations is a way to share with others the beauty and curiosity that I find in this frequently tumultuous world."
BONGO THE DRAGON
"Bongo the Dragon is a soft jointed doll, his face and claws are sculpted from polymer clay and painted with acrylics. His body is sewn from vintage fabric and naturally dyed muslin (purple fabric is dyed with black bean), he is stuffed with fiberfill. His horns are carved pieces of driftwood."
BIZZLE BUZZLE, KEEPER OF THE BEES "Bizzle Buzzle is the keeper of the bees! She is made from vintage fabrics, her costume is adorned with a few Czech glass buttons. Her body is made from muslin dyed naturally. Her face and hands are sculpted from polymer clay and painted with acrylics, her hair is dyed flax and her antenna are wire wrapped in thread."
MOONDROP FAIRY "Moondrop Fairy is a soft jointed doll. His face and hands sculpted from polymer clay and painted in acrylics. Head appendages are wire wrapped with thread, the body is sewn from vintage fabrics and the chest is hand embroidered with a moon and stars. Body is button jointed and stuffed with fiberfill. Neck is adorned with single antique button, hair is flax fiber."
GOLDEN FLOWER FAIRY "Golden Fairy Flower is a soft jointed doll. His face and hands sculpted from polymer clay and painted in acrylics. Head appendages are wire wrapped with thread, the body Is sewn from naturally dyed muslin and vintage fabrics (yellow fabric is dyed with turmeric and bay leaves, pink fabric dyed with avocado stones). Body is button jointed and stuffed with fiberfill. Neck is adorned with single Czech glass button, hair is dyed flax fiber."
SEA ANEMONE "Sea Anemone is a very special anemone. Her face and hands are sculpted from polymer clay and painted with acrylics. The body is sewn from vintage fabrics and hand embroidered. The limbs are button jointed and the growths are made from fabric and individual strands of glass beads. There is a single antique copper button sewn to her neck. She is a reminder of the diversity of the underwater world."
SCRAM, SCRAMBLE AND NIBLET: THREE LITTLE BEASTS "Scram, Scramble and Niblet are three little beasts. These three little beasts sewn from vintage fabrics and hand embroidered. Their heads are cast from resin and painted with acrylics, horns are wrapped with sewing thread.
Scram is ever inquisitive and enjoys pondering the many mysteries of the universe and Scramble is very fond of collecting dried flowers and eating small bugs. Niblet enjoys reading fantasy books, basking in the sun, and taking very long naps."
BEETROOT "This is Beetroot, the dancing root vegetable. He is the first of a line of vegetable dolls. He is soft jointed and his body is sewn from vintage fabric ,stuffed with fiberfill, and hand embroidered. His hands and face are sculpted from polymer clay and painted with acrylics. His long nose is made with wire wrapped in thread and his leaf head appendages are also reinforced with wire.
Beetroot ran away from the vegetable patch to follow his dream of becoming a dancer. He is slender and nimble and likes to perform with his friend carrot."
